HOW
TO SEARCH THE WEB FOR ANSWER OR INFORMATION EFFECTIVELY
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Prior to the inception of the internet
people of all works of life had found it difficult
to look for information, so many
obstacles has impede their venture but now the world
has change internet is taking the
centre stage of globalization and it’s doing it greatly.
And ever since the internet came people
have looking for ways to tap into it’s vast
resources that is why I decided
go put together an effective guide on how to search for information online.
WHAT IS A SEARCH ENGINE
A search engine is a software robot
that crawl through hundreds of millions of website pages for information using
the computer network.
Or
A computer program that gather documents
or files or data from a computer network or data base.
Have you been wondering how to search
for information without having to go through hundreds of pages online? In this
book I have explained how to search the web efficiently for answers and information
and discuss the problems that people normally face when trying to look for
information online.
Since the phenomenal inception of the
internet and the discovery of its various capabilities many people have venture
into tapping it’s great and almost unlimited resources—looking for information
and answers to questions. These of course has proven difficult to many,
resultantly leaving them frustrated or getting them to stop searching for
information or answers online.
In this book I described many ways to
make renown search engine (such as Google, Yahoo, Answers, Bing, Ask and so on)
to find you information (or answers to your questions).
Now how to search effective begins from
here:
USING QUOTES
Using quotes around questions or terms
make search engines to bring search result of words in that order in which they
are typed or phrased. This also tells the search engine that you want the words
right next to each other.
Now, Let say you are looking for
information on how to make money online.
Write this on the search engine: “How to make money
online”
Compare this phrase online with: How to make money
online
Also check for the number of website in
which this information can be found. You’ll discover that the number of website
displaying the information with a quote wrapped around it will be less than
that without quote. Note that this does note mean that the one without the
quote has more answers, it means that it opens unnecessary sites. Wrapping
quotes around your questions, phrase or terms when searching filters
unnecessary site form the search engines an automatically increase to a very
high degree the tendency to find information you are looking for online. To
effectively search the net for answers using quote brings to you what you want.
USING MINUS
Using negative sign before a word(s)
automatically tells the search engine you do not want the word to be included
in the search results. For example: you are looking for information about
somebody let say a scientist whose first name you know, for instance albert but
whose last name you do not. But some how you know it couldn’t be Gary.
Note: Albert –
Gary
This tells the search engine to
eliminate Gary from the search result
KEY WORDS
Be conscious of the words you use. Use
important words in other to filter out unnecessary search result, for instance
you are looking for information on “online marketing”.
Write this on the search engine: online
marketing
Don’t do these:
How can I get information on online marketing.
SPECIFYING SITES TO CONDUCT SEARCH ON
You can specify site you want to search
for information. For instance You can specify site like yahoo by writing
site:Yahoo.com. for sites pertaining education you can specify by writing
site:.edu. This search will the search engine to conduct search inside the
specified site or website. Example: let say you are looking for top stories
from BBC.
Write this on the search engine: “Top stories” site:bbc.com
You can also exclude site you don’t
want the search engine to search from your query by writing in the site address
minus sign right in front of it.
Write this on the search engine:
Education for all- site:nsukonline.com
GUESSING
You can guess URL (Uniform Resource
Locator) or a web address. The address should not contain space. You may want
information patterning online marketing you could just guess by:
Write this on the search engine: Online
Marketing.com on the address bar.
You should put it at the back of your
mind that guesses only works sometimes.
WHAT “WHAT IS”QUESTIONS WILL GIVE YOU
If you are searching for answers using
“What is” it could prove efficient.

You know search engine searches pages
of website for words or phrase for sentence similar or exactly like the one you
type in the search box or you ask it to search, for instance you want to
download eBooks, all you need to do is;
Write this on the search engine:
Download eBooks for free Or
eBooks for downloads for free Or
We give eBooks for downloads for
free
Don’t do these: Where do I download
eBooks for free
Analysis: The first group of
sentence will give you the site to download eBooks for free while the second
instance of sentence will probably give you site which shows list of website
that you can download eBooks for free or site that has information about the
free eBooks and perhaps where to download it. Go for the first instance because
it saves you time this of course is the effective way to search for answers online.
